Mamanuca Islands

Monuriki, a small uninhabited islet in the Mamanuca chain, became internationally recognizable as the filming location for "Cast Away," the 2000 film that had Tom Hanks's character stranded there for years of screen time. The island itself remains undeveloped, with no permanent facilities, and most visitors reach it on a day-trip boat tour rather than an overnight stay, taking in the same stretch of sand and palm trees recognizable from the film.

Monuriki is just one of roughly twenty islands that make up the Mamanucas, a chain close enough to Nadi, Fiji's main international gateway, for genuinely easy day trips, while still scattered widely enough to support everything from quiet, single-resort private islands to lively day-tripper beach spots.
